First of all, they serve you with complimentary bread. It’s got good size, it’s soft when fresh, hard after a while, and it comes out hot. And the bread is great, too jejeje. Perfect to scoop off excess sauces for your pasta.
Speaking of pasta, they’re really great value. I used to take out one order of pasta and for a weak eater like me, I’d get about 2 full meals out of them. I’d usually get the Spaghetti and Meatballs, which is really a Brooklyn / New York staple than an Italian one. There are around 4-5 good-sized meatballs with surprisingly al dente spaghetti.
When this dish is unavailable (like my last visit), I go with the classic Bolognese pasta. It’s your classic spaghetti with meat sauce. Nothing really stands out, but they don’t screw with you either. To be honest, I’m actually quite surprised how well a place like this does pasta, considering they seem to bake it rather than finish it off in a pan with sauce. Like I said, great value for money.
Of course, there’s the obligatory Sola Iced Tea whenever I go to Brooklyn Pizza.
Their Buffalo Wings looked really good on the posters and I had been craving for wings since my last visit to Sunrise Buckets. Let’s just say that I’ve had better. They’re more fried chicken wings with a little sauce than Buffalo Wings. Not really spicy either, but I guess they’re OK. Compare it to Yellow Cab’s insanely priced1 wings, Brooklyn’s 6-8 piece is looking like a steal. Flavor-wise, it’s not any better than Yellow Cab’s, but it’s not any worse either. Size-wise, Brooklyn’s are more like a 33D while Yellow Cab’s is like a 32B.
Now the pizza is really what does it for me over at Brooklyn Pizza! I usually get a Pepperoni pizza, but their White Pizza’s really good, too. You can get ‘em by the slice, half, quarter, but I usually go for the whole Pepperoni. I’m old fashioned that way.
The sauce is what stands out for me. It’s really above and beyond any of the pizza places that we have in Manila. Ever watch that sequence when Charles Barkley was blind-folded and was asked to distinguish which one was a Krispy Kreme donut? You can do the same for Brooklyn Pizza’s sauce! It goes perfect with the dough and the cheese. The pepperoni’s really just icing on the cake.
They have this promo as well that if you order2 an 18″ with a 1.5L Coke, you get the wings for free. Pretty good deal. Thing is, the quality between the fresh one and the take-away/delivery is quite significant in my book. Don’t get me wrong, it still tastes great, but it’s just not the “fucking awesome” reaction from when you get it fresh. I had it delivered once and the pizza was literally cold and the sauce basically dried up. That’s why I don’t eat Brooklyn Pizza as often as I would like. Still, maybe I should give their delivery service another shot.
