Second thing, I love meat. You can basically classify me as a carnivore. You see anything green on my plate? Take a picture because that’s a rarity. So what does this have to do with this entry?
I’m always looking for a new deli. I’m serious. What’s not to love? There’s ham, sausages, salamis, and you can’t be a deli if you don’t get some good quality meat. And if anyone had a choice, they’d pick a perfectly marbled steak brushed in butter than a salad with vinaigrette. If not, then this is probably the wrong site to be reading. So take a deli and place it within a 10-minute driving distance from my house, and it’s basically a godsend.
With the recent fuck ups with the burgers that we’ve been trying, the burger over at Deliboys was a breath of fresh air. The Jucy Suzy is one of the house specialities. So what’s with that ridiculous name? Well, I found out after I tried to split the burger1. The burger is oozing with cheese inside. But aside from that, it’s just your simple burger. Buns. Beef. Lettuce. Tomatoes. Cheese. And what people fail to realize, that’s all you really need in a burger. The differentiator is always in the quality of the beef and I’d say Deliboys’ burger can stack up to most places here in the Metro.
I like Coke with my burgers2, but I’ve made it clear I’m a sucker for Homemade Iced Tea. Not bad. Again, there are better ones out there, but generally, theirs wasn’t bad at all.
What good is a deli if you don’t try their cured meat, right? So we ordered one of the heavier ones, the Six Flag sandwich. This has mortadella, pepper Lyoner, Pikant, Maple ham, pepperoni salami, sweet ham, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese in a whole wheat loaf. And how can you go wrong when it’s served in a chopping board?
I have to admit though this was a bit of a disappointment. Sure the meat was nice, but it’s just too much. The meat was stacked too much that you have a hard time tasting each layer of meat. I couldn’t get enough of the pepperoni salami, which really stood out, but that’s the thing. There wasn’t enough of it. They have a ton of selection of sandwiches and you can even make your own. I suggest picking one of those so as not to stack too much flavor in a sandwich.
Still, I was pretty happy with my meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger and I’d have it again. There are other items such as sausages, risottos, duck, and some others. They advertise a Meltique steak from Australia, which looked really good. Great marbling and all. It was just a bit too expensive for me. I’d say the burger is still the way to go.
