Orale! Taqueria Mexicana: A Review Written Entirely in Spanish. Just Kidding.

We’re foodpornjunkies.com.  The restaurant’s name is Orale.  It’s a match made in heaven.  First, a little background:

Orale is the first in a chain of restaurants being planned for 20121.  Joe Orale was dating this girl named Peaches, and they were very happy.  At least, until Peaches realized she was actually a lesbian.  Still, Joe Orale loved his ex so much that he decided to open up a restaurant for all taco munchers.  Peaches passed away a few years back, but thanks to this Mexican restaurant, Orale’s ex still continues to bring happiness to diners everywhere.

Just kidding.  Let’s get to the review!

There’s this ongoing debate about where the best Mexican restaurant in Metro Manila is.  Some say it’s Ristras, some say it’s Jalapeno, some say Agave.  Personally, I think it’s Orale.  I’m going to come right out and say it – I’m not great with Mexican food, but I know what I like.  That being said, we started with a Plain Cheese Quesadilla.

Plain Cheese Quesadilla (P185.00 or $4.10)

The cheese was melted beautifully in that thing.  The tortilla was fresh, and piping hot, the tomatoes and the jalapeno peppers weren’t soggy… Everything that could go right in that quesadilla DID.  So yes, I liked it.

Up next, Lengua Tacos.  They used soft tacos for this one, which is alright.  My issue is with how small the serving was.  Yes, it was delicious – probably the best tacos I’ve had in a while, but I don’t want to feel like a giant eating pint-sized Mexican food.  Is it worth it?  That’s a tough one, but yes, go for it.  One peso higher though, and SCREW THAT.

Of course, what’s Mexican food without burritos?  We went for the Grande Carne Asada Burrito, which is basically a beef burrito.  This one gives you good value for your money I think, just because of the quality of the ingredients.  The rice, the beans, the beef – everything TASTED fresh.  I hate to sound like Elton John here, but the freshness was like colors were just exploding in my mouth.

Overall, very happy with Orale, and I plan on (have been) coming back.  I rarely write positive reviews, usually settling for a lukewarm appraisal of the places I eat in, but this one is definitely one of my favorites.  And to think, we owe it all to that woman in her comfortable shoes, Peaches.
