Who am I kidding? I was just fucking lazy.
Milky & Sunny is located along Kapitolyo St., a budding area for small eateries. I’ll say this off the bat: Parking is a bitch! And this was around 8AM on a Saturday! It’s either really popular2 or mind blowingly awesome3.
My eyes kept wandering to the Chicken and Waffles. I’ve been quite curious how the 2 would go together. I’ve been seeing that combination on the Travel Channel and I’m hearing Charles Barkley endorsing Lo-lo’s Chicken and Waffles, and it seemed like the most natural thing for me to try it out here. IMHO, this was turribly disappointing.
Google “chicken and waffles” and it’s so different from what is being served here. Look at Lo-lo’s and I probably can’t tell you anyone who’d say “no” to that. The Chicken and Waffles at Milky & Sunny looked nice at first glance. Great glazing work with the syrup. But after your first bite, you’ll wonder where the chicken is. My best guess is that they served half a breast of a chick4. Price-wise, I can’t complain. Over at Flapjacks, a waffle would cost P185 bucks, but I thought it was executed a lot better there.
I’m a sucker for pancakes so we went for the Choco Chip Pancakes. All I can say is: I’m a sucker. The batter wasn’t bad, my problem was with the execution and the terrible turrible quality of the butter. The order had taken more than 30 minutes to come out because they ran out of batter. They must’ve rushed everything because the consistency of the batter was bad at best. Although it’s almost half the price of Flapjacks and Malcolm’s Deli, I’d willingly pay the difference for the superior quality in both places.
The Banana King Kong French Toast was probably the best of the bunch today. My only complaint is the serving. It’s just two pieces of bread and they seem to use the cheap bread you buy at the supermarket. But for 130 bucks, I don’t think I will complain.
Overall, food was mediocre at best. Service was really slow, but I think it was a fairly new operation at the time. The staff were really nice, though and they have a really nice ambiance and design to the place. I can’t help but compare Milky & Sunny to the other breakfast places I’ve been to and although it’s a lot cheaper here, I’d rather get a more expensive but vastly superior quality meal elsewhere. It’s not everyday I splurge or wake up for breakfast. I did say I’m lazy, right?
