Rub is located way past the food street of Kapitolyo. But people seem to drive the extra 5-10 minutes for this hunk of meat. If there’s anything we should learn from Asian trips, it’s pretty much always worth the queue. And when you do get a seat, you’ll notice the quotes from celebrities and some movie lines. Being a “Rocky” fan, it’s always nice to actually read the lines from the movie… because you can’t fucking understand Sly during the movie itself. But I digress.
We start with the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It comes with BBQ sauce, coleslaw, and potato fries. Wasn’t bad, but not as good as Borough’s. You won’t drive all the way to Kapitolyo and wait another 20 minutes for this. I’d say skip it.
I would go for their Rub Beef, though. It’s dry rubbed US hanger steak with garlic sauce, toast bread, and buttered veggies. It’s moist, juicy, and surprisingly tender. The steak itself is flavorful with their rub and the garlic gravy is just bonus. Good with it, but you don’t need it.
Pair it with their House Blend Iced Tea, the pitcher pours for about 5-6 glasses, good for 4 people. Nothing special, but not your Nestea Iced Tea.
But you come and wait2 for Raki’s BBQ Ribs. They have pretty good deals3 but we chose to go for the Family Brunch set.
This can easily set you back a thousand bucks elsewhere4 and quality-wise it’s not so far off. I found them to be a bit on the salty side at times but the meat is just off-the-bone tender.
The sides are nice and you have variety, but I say go for the Sprice5. It isn’t bad at all.
And I heard they’re pretty famous for their Fried Oreos, but I’d like to live a few more years.
Would I drive and wait an hour for this? Not every week, but maybe once every 2 months kind of thing. Maybe even 3. Sure, they make a buck off you. They’re a business! But you know you’re getting your money’s worth here. No wonder there’s always a line outside.
