I knew Penang couldn’t screw this up, but I figured I might as well follow my friends’ advice and get some professional help1.
Enter CK Lam of What2See, the premier Penang food blogger. She’s written about other restaurants but recommended this one — Chee Wah Fish Head Curry.
It’s a bit difficult to look for this place. Luckily, this blog’s here to tell you that just follow the blue-striped umbrella as your marker. Because that’s just how we roll B-)They’re famous for their fish head curry. It’s as simple as that. There is a cart of goodies, which we got an order of some Deep-fried Prawn Fritters and Pork, but for the most part, people come here for the curry.
Their Fish Head Curry is done Asam style, but a bit of a sour component to it. They serve it with a piping hot clay pot and you have your choice of the size of the fish.
The curry was topped with some mint leaves, raw onions, okra, and some tomatoes. Just the smell alone told me I had come to the right place.
The guests of honor (or the brave souls) get the best part — the eye. So don’t be a pussy. The fish head curry is perfect with rice. We wiped off the plates clean.
So how does this compare to the fish head curry in KL that my sister kept raving about? No idea. After she tasted this, all she told me was we won’t even bother trying that other one. This is easily the best fish head curry I’ve had. Check another one for me, bitches!
