Kizuna Coffee Concepts: Gourmet Food with Coffee

I’m usually skeptical about going to Banawe, not unless I want cheap1 parts for my car.  There are good places to eat, but there’s a huge supply of really really cheap but mediocre food.  But there’s this place that we’ve heard about, so Ryan and I decided to check this place out.

The place is called Kizuna Coffee Concepts and its located between the row of car repair shops so parking was quite a bitch.  But now that I think about it, the location’s pretty smart because it’s somewhere you can really hang out while you’re having your car fixed2. I really had no expectations about Kizuna, but the place was really pleasantly surprising to say the least.

First dish was Spicy Tuna Pesto3.  Now, I have to be really honest.  I’m not a big fan of pesto so I was a bit hesitant to order this dish.  But, this dish was good.  I mean really good and  I totally get why this is one of their best sellers.  The sauce is not too overpowering like most pestos out there and they have big chunks of tuna to go with the pasta.  There’s this spicy kick to it that just works.  I liked this so much, I ordered 2 of these.

For my actual lunch, I picked a Pepper Pork Steak Lunch Set Menu.  Dish came with rice and a fresh salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and zucchini.  The pork was nicely grilled and had that nice char to it.  Sauce was good as well, not too overpowering that it masks the pork’s flavor.  It is still about the pork, after all.

Ryan ordered a Lemon Butter Fish for his Lunch Set Menu and I tried a piece and I liked this a lot.  Looks like your typical fried fish, but the batter’s seasoned well with butter with a hint of lemon. The fish inside’s cooked well and moist so I can’t complain.  Their lunch sets are really great value at 95 bucks!

And since I don’t drink coffee, I ordered one of their frappes, which they are famous for.  The Strawberry Fields Frappe was creamy and not too milky.  I’ll probably have a hard time trying the other flavors because I liked this so much.

Ryan ordered an Americano Coffee.  Listen, when it comes to coffee, I’ll take this guy’s word over a lot of guys4. So when he says this is good coffee, this is good coffee!  I later found out that they use Brazilian coffee beans, which is one of the best.  The only time I drank coffee was about 10/11 years ago during my trip to Brazil precisely because Brazilian coffee is so good!  And for 50 bucks, this is an absolute steal!

Apparently, the owner is also the waiter / barista / everything else at this time because they are still in the soft opening phase.  Plus, the owner is a trained chef, who designed the menu and created the recipes.  I’ll admit to being surprised, but in a really good way.  I know where I can hang out while I’m getting my car fixed and I know I’ll be getting really good food.  I saw a Burger Margarita in their menu.  Looks really promising!
