Army Navy: Burger + Burrito

There’s this new joint that’s mushrooming throughout the Metro.  I only needed to read the word “Burger” and I knew I had to try Army Navy right away because who doesn’t love burgers, right?  It took me a couple of months, but here’s my take on Army Navy.

First of all, you gotta have the burger!  Each patty is a quarter-pounder and you can have up to 3 stacks of patty.  We just ordered the Classic Burger with Bacon.  Didn’t like this so much because, like Charlie’s, there’s a hint of BBQ sauce to this that I just find wrong.  Not as strong of a BBQ flavor, but it’s still there.  Also, it’s not a quarter-pounder¹.  Still, this wasn’t half bad and for P165, it’s not a bad deal.  Between this and Charlie’s, I’d choose Army Navy’s but they should’ve left the ketchup off the burger.  Gotta give props to the Sesame Seeds Kaiser Bun that they use. Really good bread!

Seeing as their sign said “Burrito,” we really had to give this a try.  We chose a Chicken Burrito and it came with Spanish rice, beans, onions, lettuce, and cilantro.  Properly portioned, flavors were nice and not overwhelming.  Flavor-wise, I thought Ristra’s is still better, but you can’t go wrong with this.  Not when you have that yummy sauce and that salsa.  That unnamed sauce tastes like the garlic sauce you get with shawarmas and I just couldn’t get enough of this.

I also tried their Steak Starving Sailor, which is a sandwich comprised of Rib Eye steak slices, Jalapeño cheese spread, bell peppers, and caramelized onions in an 8-inch Sourdough bread.  You and I would probably call this a Cheesesteak, but let’s go with Starving Sailor for now.

I’d say this was just OK.  Beef tasted nice, but it was a bit tough.  My sister can eat through almost anything, but this was too tough for her as well.  Bread was a bit on the hard side as well and the cheese tasted like melted cheddar, which didn’t work for me.  I like the classic Cheezewiz for cheesesteaks, so in this regard, I prefer Charlie’s for this dish.  Army Navy’s is more affordable, though, so I’d probably get the chicken during my next visit.

Their Fearless Fried Chicken seems to be a popular menu item.  Not that big a fan.  A bit greasy and definitely not even close to a KFC. They use peppercorns with their gravy, which is kind of different.  Not better, just different.

And go for a complete meal here with their Libertea and Freedom Fries. Despite the really corny names, they’re not bad at all.

The owners are the same as Yellow Cab’s so it’s no surprise that there are plenty of branches sprouting about.  They’re basically an affordable and accessible quality burger alternative to places like Charlie’s² and Jollibee³.  I’d probably eat their burgers again if I’m looking for a quick burger fix.  Saying Army Navy is at par with a place like Charlie’s is a bit of a stretch but let’s just say that they balance out quality and price, but I wouldn’t expect too much if I were you.
