Cab Cafe: Nothing to Write About

I‘ve been having trouble finding a new place to eat because I don’t feel like driving some place too far¹.  I ended up remembering this new place right beside Charlie’s Grind and Grill in Kapitolyo that I keep seeing, but never really stopped to find out what they serve there, much less try their food.  No better time than now, I guess.

Apparently, this place is called Cab Cafe, where they primarily serve cakes, coffee, and pastries.  But if you look at the menu closely, it seems like a predominantly Italian place with pizzas, pastas, and paninis.

First dish we got was a Spaghetti al Amatriciana, which is your typical red sauce served with bacon.  So I’m waiting for the dish…. Then I’m waiting again… Then I’m waiting again…. You get the picture.  Took forever for a pasta dish to come out and it wasn’t that good.  Worse thing you can do to a pasta dish is to fuck up the pasta and boy, did they fuck it up! Let’s just say it’s just a couple of notches better than Jolli Spaghetti². The pasta was too soft and the sauce was bland.  It took quite a bit of chili oil (which wasn’t spicy) to make it taste something.  The foccacia bread was overly toasted for my liking.

Our next dish was the Linguine with Sundried Tomatoes.  Again, we’re waiting.  At least this was a hell of a lot better than the first dish.  The pasta was cooked better and the sundried tomatoes really saved the dish.

They actually have this big pizza oven that’s prominent by the entrance.  So that plus the fact that I love pizza, I couldn’t miss ordering one.  I chose the Pepper Salami with Cheese.  First of all, it came with olives.  I don’t like olives, but I thought I’ll give their pie a try.  OK, so it wasn’t that good³.  It took a while to come out and the it was really hard⁴ — the crust, I mean jeje.  Ended up too crispy for my taste.  The pomodoro sauce was bland, like everything else.  The server said that the pepper salami was the spicy variety.  He lied.  And if it ain’t Miriam who lied, it just ain’t cool.

Usually we don’t order desserts, but the cake display looked really tempting.  I mean, I couldn’t stop looking at it.  They had tiramisu’s, carrot cakes, and those other stuff.  We ended up with a Strawberry Short Cake.  I’m no cake person, but it wasn’t good.  Bland at best.

Overall, it’s probably a quiet place to hang out and drink coffee.  Food-wise, it’s really wasn’t very good.  But to be fair, there were actually quite a number of people coming and going.  Obviously I’m still in a funk because I’ve probably used the word “bland” about 3 times now.  But really, nothing to write about this place.
